Character Information
Character Name:Amy Rose
Fandom: Sonic the Comic (Fleetway)
Canon Point: End of the comic's run.
Age:19 by the end of the comic's run. (estimated)
Species: Hedgehog
Appearance: Pink fur which is peach on her muzzle, arms, and stomach brown eyes eyes. Her pink quills are usually held back by a red headband or ribbon.
In early STC issues she was most commonly seen wearing a green kilt and a white t-shirt with a heart on it. But she's now more likely to be wearing grey cargo pants and a pale blue jacket.
Character Personality:
In a word? Spunky. She's strong willed enough to lead a group of people, but she can take orders when needed. That doesn't mean she's not stubborn and won't complain about it though. She hated being left behind to guard the caravan when she was still new to the freedom fighters and threw herself at anything that attacked while the boys were away.
Amy likes teasing Sonic, along with the other freedom fighters, and sometimes can't resist making puns. However she knows when to be serious. She's learned not to take everything at face value, but that it better to be friendly and cautious, rather than Suspicious and Paranoid.
Amy does have a temper. She threw Shortfuse out of the freedom fighters when his recklessness endangered the other members, and even told Sonic off a time or two. She has been known to get jealous when Sonic pays attention to other females but she does have good instincts, and when she really doesn't like someone, there's usually a good reason.
But Amy is not infallible sometimes Amy can be too eager to prove herself a capable fighter and has bitten off more than she can chew, which usually leads her to needing to be rescued by Sonic; and she can be a little to focussed on Sonic, missing both Johnny's crush on her and Poker Lewis' impending nervous brake-down. When things go wrong she refuses to leave anyone behind, even when the best option is to regroup and attempt a rescue later.
However usually Amy is not as rash as Sonic can be, and tries to solve problems intellectually, if she can, before resorting to the hit-it-with-arrows-until-it-blows-up method. She also knows that how someone is defeated is just as important as defeating them in the first place. She has on occasion saved the day and played down her victories, or even lead Sonic into thinking he was the one who saved the day.
Powers and Abilities:
No special abilities, but she knows her way around a computer pretty well and is a good shot with a crossbow. She's also fairly even tempered and doesn't surprise easily.
Character History:
Please note:
I have ignored the strip "Amy's secret past" as it directly conflicted with the character development Amy went though during the rest of the comic.
Amy the Fangirl:
When Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends vanished for six months, Dr. Robotnik didn't waste any time in taking advantage of his substance, sweeping over the world and taking each zone for his own. He moved so fast it was like he had been waiting. And indeed he had, for Sonic had fallen into a trap Robotnik had left for him in the special zone. And with Sonic missing no one could stand in his way. When Sonic finally returned, and started fighting back, it was only natural for people to be thankful, to call Sonic the Hero he was and hope they get to meet one day.
Amy rose however took it further than many of Sonic's other fans. Much further...
Joining the Freedom Fighters
Amy was desperate to meet Sonic, but how could she? Sonic didn't know she existed and she couldn't find him anywhere. So she spread the rumour that she was Sonic's girlfriend hoping, that Sonic or one of his friends would come to investigate. She was sure that if she could just get to meet Sonic, they'd be happy together.
Instead Sonic avoided her, at least until Dr Robotnik had her arrested for associating with an outlaw. Johnny Lightfoot and Sonic witness the arrest, and have little choice but to rescue her. Much to Sonic's annoyance this meant that many people believed Amy's story, and they had to let her stay with the freedom fighters because it wasn't safe for her anywhere else. Indeed, later in the comic that became true for everyone in the Emerald Hill Zone. They had harboured the team and had to be evacuated to the Floating island to avoid Robotnik's wrath when he found out.
Between being kidnapped and annoying Sonic she managed to prove her resourcefulness by talking Sonic and Captain Plunder into working together, and constructing her own crossbow for a weapon. Although she was still often considered an easy target and it was a long time before she was considered a legitimate threat to Robotnik's rule.
It was her quick thinking that saved herself, Johnny, and Tails from Super Sonic after an accident on the Floating Island caused him to absorb to much Chaos Energy to control. However the plan that the gang and the Kintorbor computer came up with to drain Sonic of the chaos energy had a dire side affect. When the team found out that the plan to drain Sonic resulted in Super Sonic being separated from Sonic, and sent to the Special Zone where he could do untold harm. Sonic left to go after him, leaving Amy in charge of the freedom fighters when he went after the yellow hedgehog. She lead the team on several missions, recruiting Tekno the Canary, and Shortfuse the Cybernik. She even managed to convince Knuckles to expand the base when one of his own adventures had them cross paths.
The constant fighting between Robotnik and the freedom fighters comes to ahead when Robotnik leaves for the floating island having found out that was where the Emerald Hill Folk were hiding. Amy is unaware of where Robotnik is gone, but is still affected by this because the doctor leaves Grimer in charge. Grimer, hoping to prove his worth to Robotnik, starts making laws that are impossible to follow, such as announcing a curfew after it was made into law so he could arrest everyone on the streets. This lead to public open revolt, and Amy was there to encourage it. Grimer was not about to lose Robotnik's empire on his watch however and flooded the zone with troopers. For a moment it seemed like it was going to be the end of Amy and the freedom fighters. If it hadn't been for Sonic managing to transport himself and Super Sonic to Mobius in the middle of their own fight.
During Sonic and Super Sonic's own fight Super Sonic had started to charge himself up, the result would have been catastrophic in the special zone, but on Mobius the result was quite different. The blast generated a EMP that off-lined every single machine on the planet giving Sonic one chance to over throw Robotnik entirely. Of course this being Sonic he didn't waste that chance, And although Robotnik escaped, the planet was now free. There was also the problem of Super Sonic going missing but while Sonic, Amy, and the gang tried their best to find him, the search was for nothing.
Whole New Worlds
After Mobius was freed from Robotnik's rule, Shortfuse the Cybernik disappeared. Amy and Tekno eventually found him in trouble in another dimension. Thanks to one of Teckno's machines they managed to save him. However he chose to stay in the other world to help the people there. The girls accepted this, but their attempt to return home resulted in their first visit to Earth.
A human by the name of Professor Cratermass saw Tekno and Amy crash the spaceship they had borrowed from Shortfuse's friends. Amy and Tekno explained their situation to the bewildered human, but as they were discussing away for Tekno and Amy to get home Colonel Granite, who had been informed of their crash by Project Starwatch, imprisoned them. With Professor Cratermass' help they not only escaped the prison but returned home. Yet that was far from he end of Amy's inter-dimensional travels, or the last anyone heard of Colonel Granite.
A year later, Amy and Tekno were travelling though a friendly self aware device called the Eternity Ring, righting various wrongs on the Ring's behalf, when they found themselves in Kansas in 1870 where they had found that Colonel Granite was invading the past in order to take over the world. They travelled though the time portal in order to destroy it, but Colonel Granite used Amy to force Tekno to reveal Mobius's location. Tekco deletes the information and causes the computer system to self-destruct when Amy breaks free, however Colonel Granite had a backup drive that saved the coordinates.
Colonel Granite tried to invade Mobius a few months later, on new year's day. Amy wasn't there when it happened. It was Sonic that not only stalled the invasion but, after finding out that Colonel was not acting under orders, had the Prime Minister informed of his actions which resulted in his arrest. The Colonel has not been seen since.
The Beginning of the End...
When Sonic went missing while looking for Robotnik Tekno and the Eternity ring sent Amy to a world called Sanazar to find him. Together Sonic and Amy found that Robonik's plan was to merge Sanazar, which he had just taken over, and Mobius together. While the pair were unable to stop the worlds merging that sabotaged Robotnik's plans enough that the merger was harmless and only created a larger world with portals to other Zones.
During this time Sonic had clashed with a race called the Plax, who later find Robotnik and mistake him for a figure their race has prophesied of. With the Plax's help Robotnik started drawing off energy from both earth and Mobius. The team found the machine the Plax was using on earth and when Tekno couldn't disable it in time Amy destroyed with an exploding Bow Bolt. Robotnik himself was guarding the machine on mobius and the team had the fight of their life to save the planet. Shortfuse almost giving up his life for the cause. However Sonic and Shortfuse managed to undo the damage Robotnik had done, but not before the doctor wiped out the Plax after they turned on him.
This loss was the last straw for Robotnik, he sunk into a deep depression and Grimer his loyal servant freed the monster Chaos hoping the destruction it brought would bring him around. Chaos' first appearance changed the Freedom fighters forever, they won, at the cost of Johnny Lightfoot's life. The team were devastated, but none more than Sonic. Amy tried to comfort him, but he quit the team. Amy was breaking the news to Knuckles when Chaos reappeared, on the floating island. While Amy moved as fast as she could by the time she and Tails arrived the island was already doomed. And even worse Knuckles planned to stay behind to share it's fate. Having already lost one friend, maybe two, Amy was not about to let another go. She attacked Knuckles, using an iron bar to knock him out and drag him to the plane. Knuckles thanked her after he had chance to calm down, the group were trying to figure out when a familiar voice called out to them it was Sonic. He had returned having realised he couldn't just walk away from a world that needed him.
While the freedom fighters reeled, Grimer thought his plan to help Robotnik had worked. The doctor seemed to regain his vigour after Chaos attacked the Floating Island. The island was lost during the attack, and the Chaos Emeralds scattered over the world. Robotnik eagerly gathered them, and waited for the freedom fighters and Chaos to come claim them. However Robotnik did not have a plan, he only wanted to watch as Sonic fought perfect Chaos. Just so he could see how the world would die when Sonic and his team lost.
Except, of course, Sonic didn't lose.
